2025/10/08 Chung Shan Medical University Hosts “Creative Design & Visual Marketing Workshop” to Enhance Students’ Aesthetic Literacy and Social Awareness

The Teaching Resources and Faculty Development Center of Chung Shan Medical University (CSMU) held the “2025 Soaring Eagle Program: Creative Design & Visual Marketing Workshop” on October 3. The event was co-organized by Psychology major Wu An-Pei, whose project received program funding and recognition. The workshop aimed to cultivate students’ aesthetic design and self-marketing skills, featuring a hands-on session led by Ms. Peng Mei-Hsuan, founder of Out of Design Studio. Through practical exercises using Canva, students learned techniques in layout and presentation design to strengthen their digital communication and visual expression abilities.

The workshop guided participants step by step through topics such as layout composition, color coordination, and overall presentation design. Ms. Peng emphasized that “design is not just about decoration, but an essential tool for effective communication.” She explained that thoughtful typography—through variations in size, color, and weight—helps establish a clear hierarchy of information, while appropriate use of white space enhances readability and visual focus. Demonstrating layout styles such as image-text pairing, bullet-point formats, timelines, and infographics, she encouraged students to select layouts that best suit their content and message, creating works that balance aesthetic appeal and professional clarity.

The session also covered color psychology and font pairing principles. Different colors convey distinct moods—blue for professionalism, orange for vitality, green for health and nature, and red for innovation and action. Font choices, too, should match the tone of the presentation: serif or Ming-style fonts for formal topics, rounded or sans-serif fonts for casual contexts, and hand-written styles for cultural or humanistic themes, enhancing the overall visual impact.

Dr. Tsai Meng-Ju, Director of CSMU’s Teaching Resources and Faculty Development Center, noted that the university has long promoted interdisciplinary learning and education for sustainability, encouraging students to apply creativity in both life and professional practice. Through the Soaring Eagle Program, participants not only developed design thinking and communication skills but also showed care for economically disadvantaged peers, embodying the values of inclusivity and social empathy. CSMU will continue to uphold its educational mission of “learning by doing and designing for social good”, advancing innovation and sustainable development in higher education.
