The Department of Occupational Safety and Health at Chung Shan Medical University (CSMU), in collaboration with the Taichung City Government Labor Inspection Office, hosted the “2025 Technology Disaster Reduction Experience and Exchange – Food Industry Occupational Safety and Health Family Event” today (19th) at the Cheng-Ai Building Auditorium. The event brought together resources from industry, government, and academia, focusing on the latest trends in smart factories and technology-based disaster prevention. It attracted more than 50 industrial organizations and over 100 participants.

The program featured diverse exchange activities and interactive experiences, including demonstrations of the smart disaster-prevention platform jointly developed by CSMU and industry, technology-based disaster reduction drills, and VR fall-prevention simulations. Course content covered topics such as smart factories, prevention of machinery entanglement accidents, disaster reduction solutions, and emerging issues in line with amendments to the Occupational Safety and Health Act—particularly workplace bullying and gender equality. The event also highlighted how technology can enhance employees’ mental health and workplace inclusivity. The goal was to lay a new foundation for Taiwan’s occupational safety and health through multidimensional learning and interaction.

In his opening remarks, CSMU Vice President Dr. Hsien-Ying Sung emphasized three major commitments demonstrated through the event in partnership with the city government and the Ministry of Labor:

  1. Integrating AI and big data into occupational safety systems to establish early-warning and reporting mechanisms for high-risk operations, thereby reducing human error.
  2. Providing cross-disciplinary training and workshops to cultivate local talent in technological occupational safety, ensuring that safety training models can be expanded and sustained.
  3. Leveraging the research capacity of a medical university to address the unique risks in the food and service industries, proposing practical improvement measures, and assisting enterprises in implementing ESG practices.

He stressed that “today’s launch is not the end point, but a new beginning toward safer and more sustainable workplaces.”

Taichung Labor Inspection Office Director Yi-Chuan Chiu noted that AI, big data, and smart technologies are now widely integrated into both education and industry—“even children’s summer camps are filled with AI elements, reflecting the direction of the future.” He pointed out that this event brings the latest technologies into occupational safety and health, tackling issues common in the food and manufacturing sectors such as fires, explosions, entanglement hazards, as well as gender equality. He described the event as an “adult summer camp,” giving industry participants a refreshing way to experience cutting-edge technologies.

CSMU Occupational Safety and Health Department Chair Dr. Yuan-Che Chang remarked that with the rapid advancement of technologies such as IoT, big data, and AI, the long-held vision of “technology-driven disaster reduction and smart disaster prevention” is no longer just a slogan but is becoming a reality. This event marks the first step for academia, industry, and government to jointly promote technological disaster prevention, with the hope that these innovations can be more broadly implemented to genuinely improve industrial safety and showcase the win-win outcomes of industry–academia–government collaboration.

CSMU and the Taichung Labor Inspection Office will continue this initiative with themed workshops scheduled for September 10 and October 22, focusing on deepening the applications of smart disaster prevention and smart manufacturing. The aim is to transform technological experiences into an everyday safety culture and to further promote the practical implementation of smart factories and technology-based disaster reduction, contributing to Taiwan’s industrial safety and long-term sustainable development.
