2026/01/26University of Melbourne Joins Chung Shan Medical University for Frontline Teaching and Clinical Exchange

The College of Medical Technology at Chung Shan Medical University (CSMU) recently hosted a delegation from the University of Melbourne’s School of Health Sciences, marking a significant step in international clinical collaboration. From January 12 to 23, 12 faculty members and students from the Australian university engaged in an intensive program focused on Physical Therapy, Audiology, and Speech-Language Pathology.

The exchange program offered the visiting delegation a deep dive into Taiwan’s healthcare ecosystem through a series of clinical rotations and site visits. Participants observed advanced clinical workflows at CSMU’s affiliated hospital, focusing on the Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) and Rehabilitation departments.

The group visited specialized centers for Prosthetics and Orthotics, Assistive Technology, and Child Development Assessment. To provide a holistic view of Taiwan’s healthcare system, visits were arranged to the Hochin Wellness Co-living Community (Wuri) and the Children’s Hearing Foundation.

The program culminated in a joint community health screening for local schoolchildren, where Melbourne students shared their professional observations and learning outcomes. This hands-on experience allowed for a direct comparison of clinical methodologies between the two regions.

Feng-Yih Yu, Dean of the College of Medical Technology, noted that the initiative successfully showcased CSMU’s commitment to global medical education. "This exchange not only deepened professional ties but also provided students with vital cross-cultural clinical perspectives," Yu stated, adding that the university will continue to expand its international footprint to cultivate globally competitive talent.
