2025/09/24 Youth Creativity Illuminates New Perspectives on Food Safety – National Food Safety Youth Corps Awards Ceremony Held at Chung Shan Medical University

Commissioned by the Taichung City Food and Drug Safety Office and organized by Chung Shan Medical University (CSMU), the “2025 National Food Safety Youth Corps – Festive Food, Safe You & Me!” promotional video competition held its award ceremony on the afternoon of the 24th at CSMU. The event drew participation from 11 universities nationwide. The championship went to Chen Yi-Jung from Overseas Chinese University with her work “Dragon Boat Festival Dumpling King Contest: Who is the Real Food Safety Champion?!”. CSMU teams also performed strongly, taking home second place, third place, and honorable mentions. Many works cleverly combined traditional culture with food safety topics and incorporated AI technology, earning unanimous praise from the judges.
The ceremony was attended by Director Fu Chiung-Hui and Officer Tsai Hsin-Jung of the Taichung City Food and Drug Safety Office, CSMU President Huang Chien-Ning, Vice President for Academic Affairs Chang Yuan-Yen, Dean of the College of Health Management Chang Shih-Yu, Chair of the Department of Health Industry Technology Management Chang Hsiao-Ping, Alumni Association Chairman Lin Shih-Ching, along with faculty and students.
In his speech, President Huang emphasized that food safety is inseparable from daily life. Beyond hosting the competition, CSMU encourages students to transform their professional knowledge into creative works, using videos to deliver accurate concepts. He stressed that this initiative reflects the university’s spirit of “integrating learning with practice”, and he expressed confidence that youth participation would help food safety awareness take deeper root in society.
Director Fu stated that the city government has long prioritized food safety. The Food Safety Youth Corps project, jointly promoted with CSMU, has reached its 11th year, with this being the 4th edition of the video competition. She noted that the city will continue collaborating with universities, enabling young people to communicate professional knowledge in ways that resonate with the public. She also thanked CSMU for its support, making the competition an important platform for promoting food safety education.
Dean Chang pointed out that the College of Health Management focuses on interdisciplinary expertise and practical application. The competition’s outcomes showcased students’ blend of professional knowledge, creativity, and public engagement. Moving forward, the college will continue fostering interdisciplinary learning and practical contests to cultivate talents capable of influencing both industry and society.
Competition organizer Associate Professor Lai Kun-Ming (Department of Health Industry Technology Management, CSMU) remarked that this year’s works widely applied AI and narrative storytelling. While this increased appeal, he noted that accuracy in knowledge remains essential to achieve effective educational outreach. He emphasized that participation itself is a valuable learning process, helping students cultivate both professional skills and social responsibility—core values championed by CSMU.
Champion Chen Yi-Jung expressed gratitude to her advisor, Prof. Chang Hui-Chin, for her guidance, as well as to the organizers and judges for their feedback. Cheng Ming, a student from CSMU’s Department of Health Industry Technology Management who has won awards for two consecutive years, noted that participating in the competition not only helps dispel food safety misconceptions but also provides great personal benefits. He pledged to continue competing and promoting food safety education in the future.
Preliminary judge Associate Professor Shen Yu-Cheng (Department of Health Industry Technology Management, CSMU) reminded participants to ensure the accuracy of food safety information in their works, comply with the latest regulations, and avoid errors such as misspellings or use of simplified Chinese characters. Prof. Lai humorously encouraged students nationwide with the phrase: “As long as you submit, there’s hope.”
All winning works have been uploaded to the “CSMU Food Safety Youth Corps” YouTube channel, inviting the public to appreciate students’ creativity, learn food safety knowledge, and collectively foster a safer food culture.
