Chung Shan Medical University (CSMU) showcased AI-powered healthcare scheduling, oral care products and solutions for managing hard-to-heal wounds at the seventh Taipei International Care Expo, held October 1–3 at Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center, Hall 1.

Under the theme “Innovative Care, Connecting the Future,” the university’s industry–academia office brought together six startups it has supported to exhibit alongside CSMU. Their participation highlighted the university’s efforts to translate research into practical applications that address the health needs of an aging population.

As Taiwan’s population ages, demand for long-term care continues to grow. The Ministry of Health and Welfare’s Long-Term Care 3.0 initiative focuses on healthy aging, aging in place and dignified end-of-life care, incorporating smart technologies to build a more comprehensive care system. CSMU has continued to strengthen its work in dementia care, interprofessional services and care technology partnerships.

Through its affiliated hospital’s dementia care center, CSMU brings together physicians, psychology professionals and social workers to provide integrated care and support for older adults living with dementia and their families. This year, the university also expanded collaboration with Japan’s care technology sector, connecting industry partners with care resources in Japan. These efforts aim to bring medical expertise and technological innovation into everyday care settings and develop services that better meet older adults’ needs.

Building on these partnerships, the university’s exhibition focused on four areas: smart care, innovative applications, older adults’ health and service development. Its industry–academia office coordinated resources from within and outside the university to connect academic expertise and research with industry needs. The university’s startup center also drew on resources from the Ministry of Economic Affairs’ Small and Medium Enterprise and Startup Administration to support participating teams from within and outside CSMU. Exchanges with industry representatives and professionals provided opportunities to explore further collaboration in healthcare technology.

The exhibits covered AI-powered healthcare scheduling, biomedical materials, vision care, oral health, nasogastric tube care and hard-to-heal wound management. Among the featured products was SHAN DA Oral Wellness Tablets, presented by PROBITY BIOTECHNOLOGY LTD. The oral care product originated from research by Shoei-Yn Shiau, Ph.D., of CSMU’s College of Oral Medicine. Through patent licensing and technology transfer, the company further developed the research for commercial application, demonstrating how university–industry collaboration can bring research into product development.

Hung-Ming Wu, head of CSMU’s industry–academia office, said the exhibition connected academic research, innovation teams and industry needs while encouraging collaboration across healthcare and care services. CSMU will continue building an open platform for collaboration, helping innovations move from campus to market and supporting the development of smart care and health solutions for people of all ages.
