2025/09/12 Chung Shan Medical University Wins Gold and Silver at the 2025 Taiwan Sustainability Action Awards

TAICHUNG, Taiwan – September 11, 2025 – Chung Shan Medical University (CSMU) received dual recognition at the 2025 Taiwan Sustainability Action Awards held at the Taipei World Trade Center, winning the Gold Award for “Sustainable International Collaboration and Practice in Cross-Border Higher Education for SDGs Implementation” and the Silver Award for “Dental Care for Healthy Taiwan: Southbound Initiative Partnerships.”

 

CSMU also participated in the 2025 Asia-Pacific Sustainability Expo under the theme “Rooted Locally, Advancing Health Sustainability,” presenting initiatives across three areas. The Department of Occupational Safety and Health showcased collaborations with industry and government to improve workplace safety and provide students with practical training, while also introducing a counseling platform to support compliance and protect workers. The College of Medical Science and Technology highlighted community projects addressing disadvantaged groups in remote areas and individuals with visual or hearing impairments, enhancing health and quality of life through interdisciplinary cooperation. Food innovation programs featured senior-friendly diets, nutrition initiatives for older adults in remote communities, and entrepreneurship activities that integrate education with industry practice and encourage student participation in innovation competitions.

 

While receiving the awards on behalf of the university, Professor Kan-Jen Tsai, former Dean of International Affairs, emphasized that CSMU has brought its educational models and research achievements to the global stage through international collaboration. He noted that the recognition not only honors the efforts of the entire university community but also encourages CSMU to further strengthen its global partnerships.

 

Professor Yu-Chao Chang, Vice President and Director of the Center for Sustainability, added that sustainability remains central to the university’s mission, with the goal of becoming a model green university advancing health sustainability.

 

CSMU has consistently aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and has been widely recognized for its contributions. In the 2024 Times Higher Education Impact Rankings, it ranked among Taiwan’s top six universities for SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) and SDG 5 (Gender Equality), underscoring its concrete commitment to sustainable development.
