2025/09/10 Chung Shan Medical University Partners with Taichung MRT to Cultivate Smart Transportation Talent

Chung Shan Medical University (CSMU) continues to deepen interdisciplinary education and sustainable development. On September 9, Vice President Dr. Hsien-Ying Sung represented the university in signing an industry-academia collaboration memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Central Taiwan University System (M6)—a consortium of six universities—and the Taichung Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Corporation. This collaboration marks a significant milestone for the MRT industry in central Taiwan and symbolizes CSMU’s extension of its expertise in medicine and occupational safety and health into the fields of transportation and smart cities, highlighting the new value of a medical university.

As CSMU approaches its 65th anniversary, the university has built solid achievements in clinical medicine and health care while actively pursuing interdisciplinary innovation. In his remarks, Vice President Sung emphasized that the campus enjoys a unique geographic advantage, located at the intersection of TRA Daqing Station, HSR Wuri Station, and the Taichung MRT Green Line. With the MRT line in service, commuting for students and faculty has become more convenient, injecting fresh momentum into campus development. Moving forward, CSMU will integrate medical expertise with occupational safety and health, working together with Taichung MRT to promote sustainable urban development and nurture professionals with both medical literacy and interdisciplinary perspectives.

Within this partnership, the Department of Occupational Safety and Health will play a crucial role. The department has long focused on workplace safety, risk management, and sustainable healthy environments. In the future, it will connect with MRT professional courses to incorporate core competencies such as transportation safety management, risk assessment, and smart monitoring, contributing to the development of a safe and reliable MRT system. Vice President Sung stressed that integrating medical education with occupational safety not only addresses the talent needs of the MRT industry but also represents an important step toward building a healthy city.

This collaboration reflects the joint commitment of CSMU, Feng Chia University, China Medical University, Tunghai University, Providence University, Asia University, and Taichung MRT. It also demonstrates CSMU’s active role in cultivating interdisciplinary talent. Looking ahead, the university will continue to promote cooperation between the Department of Occupational Safety and Health and other medical-related departments. Through innovative curricula and industry connections, CSMU aims to develop professionals equipped to integrate medicine, health, and transportation safety, advancing Taichung’s transformation into a more sustainable and smart city.
