The 13th General Assembly of the Chung Shan Medical University (CSMU) Alumni Association was recently held, featuring both the presidential election and the handover ceremony. Dr. Ying-Chieh Cheng, a distinguished alumnus from the 9th cohort of the School of Medicine and current Director of Cheng Ying-Chieh Clinic, was elected as the new President. Under the witness of CSMU President Dr. Chien-Ning Huang, Dr. Cheng officially received the seal of office from outgoing 12th-term President Dr. Ting-Chung Wu, marking the beginning of a new chapter in alumni leadership.

Since its establishment, the CSMU Alumni Association has played a vital role in strengthening ties among graduates and supporting the university’s growth. Each president has been a distinguished figure in medicine or related fields. The newly elected President, Dr. Cheng, is a senior obstetrician and gynecologist with long-standing contributions in Pingtung. He previously served as President of the 23rd and 24th Pingtung County Medical Association, Founding President of the CSMU Southern Taiwan Alumni Association, and is currently Deputy Secretary-General of the Taiwan Medical Association as well as an Executive Board Member of the Taiwan Association of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He is also actively engaged in shaping public health policy and healthcare reform.

Dr. Cheng stated that his first priority will be leading the preparations for CSMU’s 65th Anniversary “Alumni Homecoming” celebration, encouraging alumni from across Taiwan and abroad to return and participate. Looking ahead, he emphasized strengthening the care and support systems between alumni and their alma mater, fostering deeper connections within the alumni network.

In terms of healthcare services, Dr. Cheng proposed establishing a dedicated “Alumni Green Channel” at CSMU’s affiliated hospital, offering alumni professional and convenient medical care. He also hopes to introduce initiatives encouraging outstanding alumni’s children to study at CSMU, ensuring generational continuity. Additionally, he advocates for the creation of bylaws for a Distinguished Alumni Association and revitalizing the “Elite Eagle Lecture Series” to promote cross-sector dialogue and expand the collective influence of CSMU alumni.

At the ceremony, President Dr. Huang praised Dr. Cheng’s long-standing dedication to university affairs and expressed gratitude to all past alumni leaders for their selfless contributions. He gave special thanks to outgoing President Dr. Wu, recognizing his tremendous support over the past two years in alumni engagement, resource integration, and university development—demonstrating strong responsibility and leadership.

President Huang concluded by affirming that alumni are the university’s strongest foundation. He emphasized that the Alumni Association serves not only as a bridge of connection among generations, but also as a powerful platform extending CSMU’s influence in medicine, industry, and education. He expressed hope that the 13th leadership team will continue the proud traditions of CSMU, expand opportunities for collaboration, and work hand in hand with the university toward its next milestone.
